Tutorial No. 21 - Easy to make Square Patchwork Coaster

Here's the tutorial for the square patchwork coaster. :)

As with the triangle ones, you can make these any size you like but make sure to cut your fabrics into 5 identical squares.

For my project, my squares are 6x6 inches.  Fold the patchwork pieces lengthwise into rectangles, Place the rectangles' folded sides to the centre of the back square (dark green fabric) and the raw edges to the outer perimeter.

Seam allowance is 1/4 inch (about 0.5cm).  After sewing securely aound the perimeter, turn the coaster inside out and iron flat.

Hope you will give this and the triangle patchwork coasters a try!
Happy Sewing! :)

Tutorial No. 20 - Easy to make Triangle Patchwork Coaster

Needed to make some coasters for the home so I thought I'd show you how to make these easy patchwork coasters. :)

Let's make the Triangle patchwork ones first.

You can make these any size you like but make sure to cut your fabrics into 5 identical squares. For my project, my squares are 6x6 inch squares. Fold the patchwork  pieces diagonally into triangles.  Place the triangles' folded sides to the centre of the back square (dark green fabric) and the raw edges to the outer perimeter.

Seam allowance is 1/4 inch (about 0.5cm). After sewing securely around the perimeter, turn the coaster inside out and iron flat.

Hope you will like this easy project!

The Square Patchwork Coasters will be in the next blog post! :)

Tutorial No. 19 - Easy to make Pencil Case

My eldest daughter needed a case to keep her markers in. But the usual pencil cases were either too small or too "tight", so I made a pencil case that would be easier for her to find and retrieve her markers from.

This is a very easy sewing project. You can make this case any size you like but make sure to use a zip that is longer that the length of your fabrics - this will make the zip much easier to be sewn on! :)

For my project, I used a 14 inch long zip and 2 pieces of 9x9 inch square fabrics.

I hope you'll like this pencil case! Happy Crafting! :)

Tutorial No. 18 - EasyTo Make Ribbon Flower

Here's a very easy-to-make ribbon flower. Please follow the steps, as shown.  For my flower centres, I made mini crochet motifs but you can use applique or lace rosettes instead.

Hope you'll like this simple project! :)

Altered Hongbao Baskets

This was supposed to be my 4th CNY basket but I pasted the hongbaos upside down by mistake! :(
So I changed it into a sweet and elegant Victorian style basket/box instead! :)

Inspired by the above basket mistake, I decided to try my hand at recycling old hongbaos - and ended up making the following little basket/box! :)

Actually, I really like how the 2 baskets turned out. :D

Happy Crafting Everyone! :)

Hongbao (Red packet) Baskets for Chinese New Year 2018

I had some extra red packets so I decided to make hongbao gift baskets for Chinese New Year 2018. For each basket, I needed about 30 packets but I did not have enough for the yellow basket so I decorated it simply with some gold tape and flowers.

The little Mandarin Oranges were made from plastic netting - this was the first time I could get hold of some! They were really fun and so easy to do! If I can get more, I will make a tutorial on how to make the oranges. But really, it is not easy to find (at least for me, that is!).

This is lunar new year of the dog and the 2 red baskets are made from "dog" hongbaos. The yellow basket is for a good friend who just had another grandchild. :)

The baskets were quite easy to do and I think I make them again next Chinese New Year! :)

Happy Crafting Everyone! :)

Tutorial 17 - Fabric Pear Pincushions

Today's tutorial was inspired by a recent visit to the supermarket! :D
You can use these pears as pincushions, children's fake play food or simple house decor! :)

Here's how to make them:
1)  First, make a template - fold a piece of paper into two and draw a half pear. Then draw a straight line down the widest part and a straight line across the bottom edge. Cut out the template. You can hand or machine stitch this project.

I made crochet flowers for my pears and I used leaves from artificial flowers. But you can decorate them as you like! :)

Hope you like this sweet and easy project! :)
